Celebrating Safety Wins: Why 2025 Was a Milestone Year for WHS in the Hunter

ree

As we reach the end of 2025, it’s the perfect time to pause, reflect, and acknowledge the incredible work happening across the Hunter in workplace health and safety.

This year, we’ve seen WHS evolve from compliance-based systems into people-first frameworks that prioritise culture, mental health, and continuous improvement. We’ve heard stories of frontline workers stepping into leadership, students introducing new thinking, and businesses big and small embedding WHS into their DNA.

And with the 10-Year Anniversary of the Hunter Safety Awards just around the corner, it feels like a milestone worth celebrating.

Here’s what made 2025 special:

  • More businesses investing in wellbeing, not just safety

  • Innovation in training delivery and WHS systems

  • Rising stars and leaders challenging outdated practices

  • New technologies and tools to streamline compliance

  • Communities coming together to support safer workplaces

If you’ve been part of that shift, we want to hear from you.

Nominations are now open for the 2026 Hunter Safety Awards, and entries close Friday 27 February 2026. Whether you’re a student, a solo operator, or a large organisation, your story matters.

It’s easy to enter, and our nomination guide walks you through the process step by step.

Here’s to another 10 years of recognising the people, programs, and organisations making safety a priority, not a checkbox.

Let’s finish the year strong — and head into 2026 ready to celebrate what’s next.
